Functions

A special reservoir (vail) must be placed in the pump, filled with fast-acting insulin.

Basal administration. The vail is connected by a proper tube to a suitable subcutaneous positioned needle.

It will be slowly pushed empty by a pushbar, so that the insulin fleets regular into the body. The speed of the basal rate is adjustable.

Bolus administration. Extra bolus administration, for instance when having meals, can be administered manual.

Empty vail. The content of the vail is electronically watched. When it is almost empty a warning signal is given, both audible (a beep tone) and visible (on the display).

Alarms. Several warning and alarms call attention to the user at unusual and unexpected situations.

Read-outs. Several read-outs ensures extra control of the administration.

Limitations. Several adjustable upper limits in administration can be set and will help in precausing user mistakes.

Run-back. Due to the electrical run-back the empty vail can be easily replaced. The administered boluses for the filling of the tube are NOT counted and NOT added to the day- and bolus registration.

Battery. The battery pack provides energy for the pump for at least 3 months operation. If the battery energy level is low, this will be reported during run-back. The battery will stand for at least an other week. If the battery is really too empty, there may be no sufficient power to drive the motor, which is reported.

History. Stored history registrates settings and actual actions of the pump for 42 days. This history can be read- out into and analysed by a computer.

Watertight. The piston shaft and housing are sealed watertight, so water cannot reach the electronic components. Having a shower with the pump is allowed, but for hygienic reasons the pump should be dried with a towel after bathing.

Operating with imperfect eyesight. All settings and adjustments are marked by acoustic signals; the pump can be operated without looking on the display. An adjusted front plate is optional available as well as a help device, as well as a helping device reporting the contents of the vail acoustical. In combination with a speaking bloodsugar measuring device most of the pump therapy could be performed by imperfect eyesight patients by themselves.

Carrying provisions. The DAHEDI insulin pump can be carried in the carrying bag on a belt or, using the carrying eye, hung on a chain.
