Practice
Basal administration:
The automatic insulin administration can be adjusted in a day profile of 24 periods. The 25th rate can be used as a 'Continuous' rate instead of these 24 periods. So there is a choice between 'Program' and 'Continuous'.
The basal speed rate is adjustable from 0.0 to 6.0 IU. per hour in 61 steps of 0.1 IU per hour.
Multiple programmable models allow adjustment of different speeds; so a complete 24-hours profile can be set.
The single-speed pump offers ONE single speed only.
Multiple programmable models offer this single speed additional; at exceptional days there is no need to disturb the carefully adjusted day profile, switched over onto the 25th, single speed, administration, adjusted at the speed required for that moment (f.e. at sports).
If the basal rate is switched 'OFF', within 5 minutes a warning beep sounds. This signal is repeated every 30 minutes during 3 hours.
If the speed is set on 0.0 IU./hr., but the pump is switched 'ON', warning beeps starts after 3 hours and sounds every 30 minutes. So: the basal rate can be interrupted in two ways.
Bolus administration:
In addition to the automatic administration another, manual operated, administration, the so called 'BOLUS' administration is available. This can be operated either when the pump is 'ON' or 'OFF'. This BOLUS operation releases an extra administration of 0.5 IU. per keypress. This function will mostly be used at meal consumption. Bolussus are administrated directly after the keypress (within 0.5 second).
PAUSE adjustment:
If the 'PAUSE' function is set, the basal administration will be interrupted after every bolusadministration. The pause can be adjusted from 0 to 15 minutes, meaning that after each IU. bolus the basal administration interrupts for 0 to 15 minutes.
For example: if this setting is 5, the pump will go for (4 IU. bolus for 4 times 5 =) 20 minutes in the PAUSE mode, so NOT administer insulin for that period of time.
After these 20 minutes the pump continues the basal administration again. If during these 20 minutes again 2 IU. of bolus is administered, these 20 minutes will be extended with another 10 minutes (= 2 IU. bolus for 2 times 5).
Maximum 15 IU. bolus will determine the length of the PAUSE. 16, 17 or higher activates the maximum PAUSE of 15 times the adjusted minutes only.
Run-back pushbar:
If the vail with insulin is empty or almost empty, this must be replaced by a filled vail. Before doing so, the pushbar must be COMPLETE returned to the start position. The empty vail must be removed from the pump. Please note the (empty) vail has to be removed before starting the replacement procedure.
SETUP modes adjustments:
A number of additional settings is provided, which will not be changed daily. These settings are sheltered in the 'SETUP' s of the pump.
There are two setups in the pump, the simple 'users' setup, and a more advanced setup, meant to be used by the doctor or more advanced users.
In the 'SETUP's is adjustable and/or observable: clocksetting, sending history, pause setting, daylimit setting, boluslimit setting and remaining lifetime.
